After being abandoned by her husband, Amira, a single mother, lives with her two teenage children in Be'er Sheva of the late seventies, barely making a living from odd jobs. She struggles to maintain the dignity of her small family and tries to instill a zest for life in her children.

However, Ron, who works at a factory, escapes to the movie theater at every opportunity to find solace. His sister, Laura, who suffers from a leg deformity, withdraws from the world, sailing through imaginations related to her collection of small glass animals—her "Glass Menagerie."

When ron brings a co-worker home for dinner, the family projects all their hidden dreams onto him. Ultimately, however, he leaves them disappointed, trapping them once again in their illusions.
